Royal Caribbean Brilliance of the Seas docked at Cozumel, Mexico
Big news! We went on a cruise. Bigger news – we picked up a future son-in-law along the way! If you have been following our story you may remember a young man named Travis joining us on several of our adventures. Travis and our daughter Carrigan have been dating for a few years now. To celebrate his 30th birthday a small group of Travis’s friends and family took a Caribbean cruise over spring bring aboard the Royal Caribbean Brilliance of the Seas. We were fortunate to be included on the invite list, and we all had a great time. But Travis provided the highlight of the week by proposing to Carrigan.
Travis had been planning the proposal for months. They both love to play mini-golf and the ship has a nine-hole mini golf course on the top deck. A perfect place for a proposal. With the help of a good friend Travis hand crafted a custom ring “box” out of a mini-golf ball. If you are familiar with Carrigan’s style of mini-golfing you might see some inherent hazards of using a ring box that looks like a golf ball on mini-golf course on the 13th deck of a cruise ship in the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. But Travis kept the secret ball out of play until the perfect moment.
The rest of the party was waiting on deck just out of sight to allow them some privacy. As they walked into view the smiles on their faces showed the answer had been some version of “yes.” This was a huge relief as the alternative would have likely meant I would have been spending the remaining four days bunking with Travis.
Everyone else in the party knew what was happening and was waiting with hugs, tears of joy, and little signs we were supposed to write some sort of congratulatory thing on. I’m not sure I understood the assignment. Anyway, with the “big moment” behind us we could all relax and celebrate the young couple while enjoying the food, drink, entertainment and just chilling with each other.

Six days flew by way too fast, and we are now all back in the “real world.” But it was an amazing journey, and provided memories that will last a lifetime!

Meet Miranda. Miranda is a close friend and former house-mate of Carrigan and Travis. During the pandemic Miranda started a side-hustle on Etsy selling handmade woodcraft products. One day she was asked if she could make a ring box out of a baseball. Turns out she could. And sales took off. Then she expanded to hockey pucks. Another success. One day Travis asked, “what about a golf ball?” With a little guidance from Miranda, Travis was able to make his very own custom mini-golf golf ball ring box. And the rest, as they say, is history.
If you need a one-of-a-kind ring box for a special occasion, please reach out to Miranda. She would love to create something just for you! Her lineup now includes golf balls!
